Election Results from Tuesday
I figured this would be the case, but voter turnout was very light for Tuesday’s elections, nowhere near the level it was four years ago. State election officials estimate less than 13% of registered voters cast ballots. [ Via News on 6 ]
Nevertheless, decisions were made.
The incumbents for the U.S. House and Senate races had a strong showing in the primaries. In the U.S. Senate race, Jim Inhofe is the winner over three challengers, with 84% of the vote. Andrew Rice won over his opposition with 59% of the vote. U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe and state Senator Andrew Rice are headed for a general election campaign pitting ideological opposites for the U.S. Senate seat.
In the U.S. House District 2 race, Dan Boren is the winner, with 86% of the vote.
Dana Murphy scored a narrow victory over two-term state Representative Rob Johnson in the Republican primary for a seat on the Oklahoma Corporation Commission. Murphy now will face incumbent Democrat Jim Roth in November in the race to fill an unexpired two-year term on the commission, which regulates the energy industry.
Republican House Speaker Chris Benge of Tulsa has been re-elected. Benge received 80% of the vote over GOP challenger Brian Jackson in the House District 68 race. There is no Democrat in the race.
And, in the race for U.S. House District 1, John Sullivan had 93% of the vote. Sullivan will face the winner of the Democratic primary between businesswoman Georgianna Oliver and protest leader Mark Manley.
Republican Sally Bell defeated incumbant rival Randi Miller in Tuesday’s Tulsa County Commissioner, District 2 race. Bell received 7,950 votes (81.4%) to Miller’s 1811 votes (18.6%). She will face Karen Keith, a Democrat, in the November 4 general election.
