New Park in Downtown Tulsa
Tulsa has a new park. H.A. Chapman Centennial Green is in the middle of downtown, on 6th Street near Main. City officials recently dedicated the park, although it’s far from done. There are some landscaping, a new sculpture, and amphitheater work yet to be done.
The statue will be a 12-foot abstract reflection of the oil industry. The fountain, which is already in place and working, will throw water over the structure, which will look like part of a pumping rig from one angle and like a drilling derrick from another. The statue should be in place in about three months. Real oilfield material will be used in the sculpture, which is being paid for with money donated by the Tulsa Young Professionals.
A lot of the rest of the park was built with private money – including the Wi-Fi access courtesy of Cox and the stately Centennial Oak donated by PSO — although a big chunk came from the state’s centennial celebration fund and the Vision 2025 tax.
