Tulsa Farmers Market

According to this article from Channel 2 News, there’s certainly more interest in purchasing local food. Farmers markets are thriving from the growing trend of buying local produce.

Even Wal-Mart is catching on by increasing its partnership with local farmers. You can now check the aisles for the “Locally Grown, Made in Oklahoma” sign. Local products already on the shelves include Bixby corn, Miami mushrooms, and Porter peaches. The peaches and other “Locally Grown” produce items are available at more than 20 Wal-Mart stores.

Reasor’s also works with several local farmers for their produce.

By buying locally, these large chains can keep shipping costs down which means lower store prices. And that’s a good thing.

Here is a list of Farmers Markets in our area and their locations:

CHERRY ST. MARKET
So you’re in the hip Cherry St. area and you really want a fresh tomato, well, you’re in luck. Fresh fruits and veggies that will give the produce section at your grocery store a run for its money. Open 7am-11am, Saturdays. 15th and Peoria.

CHERRY ST. ON BROOKSIDE
Brookside is known for its nightlife spots and hip restaurants. Now let it also be known for fine locally grown produce. 8am-12pm, Wednesdays. Westlake Hardware Parking Lot, 41st and Peoria.

DOWNTOWN FARMER’S MARKET
Working downtown can lead to unhealthy eating trends. Luckily you can find respite from the grease and fat with fresh fruits and veggies at the farmer’s market. 10:30am-2pm, Tuesdays. 3rd and Boston.

JENKS MARKET
The Riverwalk Crossing has pretty much everything going on so it only makes sense that it would also be home to a farmer’s market. Veggies, blueberries and even birdbaths for sale at this market. 7am-12pm, Saturdays. Riverwalk Terrace Parking Lot.

OWASSO
If you don’t live in Tulsa proper it may be a little difficult to convince yourself that it’s worth getting up a little early on Saturday (and Wednesdays) for some fresh fruits and vegetables. Luckily for Owassonians, and those nearby, the trek is only as far as the local YMCA. Wed. and Sat., 8am-12pm. Owasso YMCA, 8300 Owasso Expressway.

PEARL’S MARKET
Perhaps the Mecca of farmer’s markets in the Tulsa area, Pearl’s offers farm fresh eggs, watermelon, corn, fresh flowers, spices, coffee, handmade soap, pottery, music and even yoga. 4:30pm-7pm, Mondays. Centennial Park, SW Corner of 6th and Peoria Ave.
