Nienhuis Park Recreation Programs

I blogged about Nienhuis Park not too long ago in a list of fun things to do in Broken Arrow. They recently came out with a list of recreation programs and there are some great activities to get involved in for every age group.

Their regular facility amenities include a Kids Recreation Room with ping-pong table, pool table, shuffleboard table, foosball table, and an Arts & Crafts room with books to read, guitar, recorders, harmonica, beginners music books, and crafts. They also have 2 full size gymnasiums which can be used for walking, exercise, basketball, volleyball, badminton, pickle ball, and other various gym games.

Here is a list of the recreation programs that they have available:

Walking & Fitness
Monday thru Friday from 10 AM – 1PM
The gyms will be open for adults of all ages and have access to exercise mats, small exercise weights, jump ropes, and exercise balls. The indoor gym will give a nice place to walk, exercise or stretch whether it is hot or cold outdoors.
Cost: Free

Stroller Workout for Mom
Monday & Wednesday from 10 AM – 11 AM
This program is for moms and their children (up to 4 years of age). This 60 minute class consists of a power walk with a variety of body toning using tubing, weights, balls and mats. The air conditioned gym creates a pleasant area to exercise and socialize with other moms.
Cost: $35/month

Zumba
Monday & Thursday from 5:45 – 6:45 PM
DITCH THE WORKOUT AND JOIN THE PARTY! Zumba fuses hypnotic musical rhythms and tantalizing moves to create a dynamic workout system designed to be FUN and EASY TO DO!
Cost: $35/month

Yoga
Monday & Wednesday from 7 – 8 PM
People come to yoga for reducing stress and improving strength, flexibility, coordination, circulation and posture. Yoga is a tool that helps people feel better physically and emotionally. Mats will be provided or you may bring your own.
Cost: $40/month

Pre-School Rhythmic Gymnastics (3-5 years old)
Tuesday from 10:15 – 11 AM
This is the perfect activity for pre-schoolers! Musicality is explored while using a hand apparatus; hoops, balls and ribbons. Basic tumbling is introduced. Leotards required.
Cost: $25/month

Rhythmic Gymnastics for Girls (6+ years)
Tuesday from 6 – 7 PM
This is the perfect activity for girls who love music and dance that thrive on creativity and originality. Combines the strength of gymnastics with beauty and grace of dance.  Leotards and required to be worn in class.
Cost: $30/month

Green Country Eco Consulting Workshop
Tuesday from 6:30 – 7:30 PM
Series of 4 workshops that present eco-friendly techniques to improve your home environment. Topics presented: general household cleaning and maintenance, personal hygiene and beauty products, organic gardening and organic kids activities and play materials.
Cost: $48 for 4 sessions

Volleyball for Beginners (Children ages 8-12)
Thursday from 6 – 7 PM
Volleyball basics for kids. Children ages 8-12 will learn volleyball techniques while engaging in an active social setting with children their own age. They will also participate in drills and games that will improve their physical fitness.
Cost: $25/month

Volleyball for Advanced (Youth ages 13-17)
Thursday from 7 – 8 PM
Advanced volleyball for youth. Youth ages 13-17 will learn advanced volleyball techniques that will help them improve while improving physical fitness.
Cost: $25/month

Volleyball League (Adult ages 16 & older)
Mondays from 6:30 – 9 PM
Adult volleyball League. Patrons 16 & older will play 2 matches per night for 8 weeks. Lots of fun!! League is in session NOW. The next league will begin Oct/Nov.
Cost: $100/team

All patrons 10 & older choosing to use the center are required to get a Broken Arrow Park I.D. that may be obtained at the center.  A photo I.D. (driver’s license, school I.D. etc..) must be presented by everyone ages 16 and older and an application must be filled out in order to receive a Park ID. Patrons under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian signature on their Broken Arrow Parks & Recreation ID Form.
